This month, I want us to slow down and remember that our clinical work doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Therapy is shaped by systems—historical, political, cultural—that influence who holds power, whose experiences are believed, and whose distress gets labeled as “pathology.” For our first February meeting, we’ll focus on self-location: noticing where we carry privilege, where we carry harm, and how that shows up (quietly or loudly) in our clinical instincts, our language, and our treatment planning.
If you’re up for it, come ready to share one reflection you’re sitting with—something you’re learning, unlearning, or trying to do differently.
Bring one question to group:
Where am I actively learning about racism and systems of oppression right now?
How do I name power and privilege in the therapy room without getting performative—or avoidant?
What helps me validate a client’s lived experience of oppression in a way that feels real?
